Medicine Drums are shaped by craftsmanship, traditional knowledge and aesthetic precision. They are handmade in numerous steps. The rawhide and wooden frame give each drum its distinctive sound. After being soaked in water, the skin is stretched around the frame and, as it dries, the drum’s sound slowly begins to take shape. The tension of the lacing and the thickness of the rawhide determine whether it will sound high or low.
